Multiplication- Monday 25th November 2024

In our maths lessons, Swifts have started learning about multiplication in a fun and hands-on way. We began by putting objects into equal groups, which helped us see that multiplication is all about combining groups of the same size. Once we understood that, we moved on to adding equal groups together, which is like repeated addition. For example, if we had 3 groups of 4, we would add 4 + 4 + 4 to find the total, which is the same as 3 multiplied by 4. Then, we started making arrays with objects and drawings. By arranging things in rows, we could see how multiplication works in a clear, organised way. Finally, we are now learning about the multiplication symbol. We are starting to see that the symbol is just a way to show how many groups of a number we have.
