This week we started our new big idea, Let’s Celebrate. We have been learning about what a celebration is and focussed on Bonfire Night. We learnt about Guy Fawkes. We used a range of art materials and techniques to create bonfire and firework pictures. We also learnt about fire safety and used role play indoors and outside to practice being safe around a fire. We had fun pretending to play with sparklers and toast marshmallows. We were really lucky to get some pumpkins from Hitchin Lavender this week so had great fun exploring them.
In phonics we have been reading and writing the letters s,a, t, p, i and using them in words. In literacy we have been learning about characters, settings, problems and solutions in stories and having a go at making predictions. When you share stories at home see if your child can predict what might happen after the ending. Maths this week has focussed on one more and one less. We also thought about the different ways we can make three and investigated this by finding dominoes with three spots. In PE we had fun jumping, we had springy legs and focussed on jumping and landing with two feet. It was hard work but fun too!
Enjoy your Bonfire Night celebrations this weekend! We look forward to hearing about them next week. Feel free to send in pictures of how your family celebrated Bonfire Night or Halloween, and any other celebrations you participate in this term. Next week we will be thinking about Diwali.
