Poles Apart

We have had a great time this week learning about the North and South Poles, and what amazing timing after just having had the Northern Lights appear in Pirton.
We loved learning about the animals that live at the poles, especially about how tall emperor penguins are and how they look after their eggs. We did think it was disgusting when the mummy penguin vomited fish mush into the baby’s beak though.
We have a new globe and enjoyed following the route that the characters from our drawing club book, Poles Apart, took. We especially liked it when they visited London and India as they were so familiar to us from our previous learning.
In maths we have been learning to use tens frames to work out how many more and how many less numbers are. We have been telling number stories using the words, first, then and now. We have also been practising our number bonds to five and doubles to ten, as well as counting to thirty. We have been re-enforcing our phonics sounds and using them in longer words this week too.
Next week will be our last week thinking about far off places, and we are going to focus on Space.
