What a busy week in Wrens! We have been to three assemblies this week, one to learn about the Pumpkin Festival, one to celebrate Harvest and the other to celebrate our learning this week. We loved looking at the photos of last year’s pumpkins and can’t wait for this years festival. We were brilliant at singing our Harvest song, Big Red Combine Harvester, and showed the 6R’s wonderfully in celebration assembly on Friday.
Forest school was great fun this week, the sun was shining and we were able to harvest fruit from our school orchard. We compared the apples to see what was the same and different about them. The children really enjoyed this, so much so that if you get the time this weekend I would recommend a visit to the community orchard in Letchworth, it is just off The Greenway close to Norton Pond. We also learned some circle games in Forest School and now have quite a range of traditional playground games we know how to play. In addition to this we saw bugs, slugs, butterflies and a cat, it was very exciting!
We have continued learning new sounds in phonics and had a go at using them to spell words, we now know s, a, t and p. Please use Bug Club to work on these sounds at home.
The Little Red Hen was our Drawing Club text this week, we made up some very funny stories of our own, an alien even came to the farm! We had an interesting discussion on whether the hen should have shared her bread, the jury is out on that one!
In maths we continued to match and sort items, compared sizes, thought about capacity and started working on pattern. I wonder what patterns you can spot together?
Have a wonderful autumnal weekend. We are going to carry on thinking about Harvest and Autumn next week so please feel free to send in your Autumn finds, along with junk and paper plates please.
