Diwali in Wrens – 8th November 2024

We had a very fun and busy Wednesday in Wrens this week! It has been lovely to learn and share more about our Big Idea for this half term ‘Let’s Celebrate’. The children were keen to share their experiences of fireworks, some of us went out to watch fireworks and some of us saw them through the window. We used Mini mash to create our own firework scenes using the smartboard. The children have got really good at saving their work in their online trays, you can log in from home to see all our mini mash learning so far! Please find the children’s log in details in their reading records.

Throughout the day we read a variety of stories about Diwali, ‘Garland of lights’ ‘Dipal’s Diwali’ and ‘My Bindi’. We were so inspired by Divya and her bindi that we improvised and wore our own bindi stickers. We also used brightly coloured scarfs to dress up and play. We made diya lamps using clay – these are drying, they will be coming home once we have decorated them! We designed our own rangoli patterns using rice and coloured sand, and practised our scissor skills to cut and stick rangoli shapes.

After lunch we made our own edible sparklers!

The children have been really keen to learn more about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. We completed a quiz which you can also try at home to see how much we have learnt in Wrens How much do you know about Diwali? – CBeebies

Have a lovely weekend!
