Swifts began their science topic on ‘Habitats’ by going on a nature walk around the school grounds, carefully observing the living things they could find. As they explored, the children were encouraged to think about the key elements that make up a habitat, such as sources of food and water, as well as the space and shelter that different plants and creatures might need to survive. They discovered a variety of habitats, from areas with large plants providing food and shelter to smaller, quieter corners with water sources for animals. After the walk, the children returned to class to describe the different habitats they had found, discussing how each one supports different forms of life and how the animals and plants might rely on these resources for survival.
