Hanukkah – Wednesday 27th November

In RE this half term we have looked at the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah. We have compared some of the traditions to Christmas celebrations and thought about the similarities and differences. We studied the story of the Maccabees so we could understand where the celebration of Hanukkah started.

Today we have enjoyed a food tasting session based on some of the foods traditionally eaten at Hanukkah; including beef, horseradish, apple sauce, hash browns and doughnuts. Following this we learnt about the game dreidel which is often played by Jewish families. We made our own dreidels and played the game in groups.
