On Tuesday, Owls invited Falcons to their own ‘Room 101’ game show! They have been working really hard on persuasive speeches, which they delivered magnificently to their peers, before asking them to vote for what they would like to be banished to room 101. The children used high level vocabulary and persuasive devices – such as rhetorical questions, exaggeration and the ‘rule of three’ – to try to persuade the audience that their chosen subject deserves to be banished. Subjects included (among others) homework, spelling tests, deforestation, global warming and homelessness. A supply teacher who taught the children last week and heard some of the speeches before they were finished was so impressed that she said that they ‘blew her socks off’!
