On Tuesday 3rd December, Kestrels had an exciting trip to Celtic Harmony to enhance their learning about the topic “Through the Ages.” The day was filled with hands-on activities that brought history to life, immersing the children in the unique experience of living life as a member of the Catuvellauni tribe: making bread, weaving clothing, and dyeing materials. The students had the chance to dye fabric using natural materials, make their own Torc bracelets by twisting yarn, and prepare a soup with foraged plants and herbs. They also engaged in ancient skills such as grinding grain on Quern stones to make bread, weaving yarn on warp-weighted looms, and experiencing life in an Iron Age roundhouse, complete with a fire and storytelling session. The trip offered a brilliant way to increase awareness of how our ancient ancestors lived off the land, while providing a memorable and interactive way for our children to explore and connect with the past.
