What a warm Pirton welcome I have received during my first week in Wrens. This week we got straight back into our routine and all the children in Wrens have been impressing me with their Phonic knowledge, Writing and Reading. Our focus text in our Drawing Club lessons this week was the Colour Monster and we have all really enjoyed exploring lots of different activities relating to the story such as mixing colours, making monster puppets and learning how to independently use a CD player to listen to traditional tales. We also attended our first sharing assembly this week and the children loved watching Owls and hearing about all the fantastic learning they have been doing.
In Phonics this week we have been learning the sounds (phonemes) for the graphemes (letters) j, v and w. We have been practising our formation of these letters and writing words containing the sounds. In PE we have started our new unit about Dance and enjoyed moving in the different ways we thought fairytale characters might move. At the end of the lesson, we performed our best dance moves to our friends and then we had to work out which fairytale character we were dancing like. In Maths this week we have started our White Rose unit of Alive in 5. We have learnt all about the number zero and spoke in full sentences when using mathematical language when I challenged the children to tell me how they knew something. We have also been improving our subitising skills. This is a fun video to use at home if you would like to support your child with their subitising skills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSlA-u_ABmU
We hope you all have a super weekend!
